Evansville IceMen News Release
EVANSVILLE, IN.--- With their first-ever training camp in the ECHL in the league's 25th Anniversary Season less than a week henceforth, the Evansville IceMen, proud ECHL affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets and St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League and the Springfield Falcons and Peoria Rivermen of the American Hockey League have landed another major talent for the 2012-13 roster.
On this date, the IceMen General Manager/Head Coach Rich Kromm has announced that top-flight center DALE MAHOVSKY has acceded to terms and will be reporting on the starting date of Evansville's 2012 training camp. Adhering to club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Commencing his third pro campaign and his first under the banner of the IceMen, MAHOVSKY (mah-HOFF-skee), 27, comes to his new hockey home armed with an arsenal of high-tech, high-octane artillery born from his major junior 'A' and Canadian collegiate hockey years and sustained through his initial two seasons in the "pay for play" business. The 6-0, 194lb standout is coming off another exemplary campaign in 2011-12 with the IceMen former CHL divisional rivals, the Missouri Mavericks. In his lone season with the Mavs, he finished a lofty fifth in team scoring, authoring 54-points in 66-games on 18-goals, 36-assists with 69-PIM, having actually been the league's leading scorer through the opening month of the last season.
The Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta product continued his outstanding consistency in the playoffs post season, registering 8-points in 11-outings with 3-goals, 5-assists. Evansville's new point-producing pivot prospered at the expense of his latest employer, averaging over a point a game in both the regular and post-seasons. In 6-regular season appearances; 6(3-5-8), while in 4-playoff encounters; 4(1-3-4) with a healthy +3 rating.
GM/Coach Kromm is elated to have Mahovsky playing for his team this year. "Dale is a solid two-way experienced center who played against us for Missouri last season. He is a player who is very effective in all aspects of the attack. Dale has the ability to play and excel in every game situation including being good on both face-offs and penalty-killing. He rounds out his game very importantly by being very reliable defensively."
In his initial pro season in 2010-11, Mahovsky divided it with the Newcastle Vipers of the EIHL; 32(13-15-28) with a strong +12 rating and Elmira Jackals of the ECHL; 28(4-8-12).
Prior to entering the pro ranks, he enjoyed a masterful 4-year career at Canadian college perennial powerhouse U. of Alberta preceded by 6-seasons with WHL power, the Kootenay Ice. In 2009-10, his +10 rating was third best for the Golden Bears while in 2005-06 he ranked fourth in team scoring for Kootenay with 69(22-35-57) and +10 rating. One year earlier, in 2004-05, he was second in team point production with 71(24-47-71), topping the team in assists and earning a superb +14 rating. In the playoffs that same season, Mahovsky ranked runner-up in team scoring; 16(9-6-15).
Mahovsky's major junior 'A' career numbers: 344-games; 86-goals; 148-assists; 234-points; 387-PIM; +11 rating. His college totals: 109-games; 28-goals; 29-assists; 57-points; 77-PIM.
Pro career numbers entering the 2012-13 ECHL season: 126-games; 35-goals; 59-assists; 94-points; 97-PIM.
Today's signing of center DALE MAHOVSKY, increases the IceMen total of signed players to 14. Mahovsky joins defensemen AARON GENS, MATT GENS, JAKE OBERMEYER, JESSE PERRIN, PHILIPPE PLANTE; left wings JOSH BEAULIEU, MARK CODY; centers JASON DALE, TODD ROBINSON; right wings DAN GENDUR, PATRICK KENNEDY, DANIEL MORIARTY, TYLER SHELAST.
