On this date, the IceMen General Manager/Head Coach Rich Kromm has announced that All-Star defenseman DANIEL TETRAULT has agreed to terms and will be arriving right on time for the commencement of the team's annual rites of early autumn. Adhering to club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Embarking on his 13th pro season and his first-ever in Southwest Indiana with the IceMen, TETRAULT (TAY-troh), 33, arrives on the Tri-State region's pro hockey scene owning a rich resume of achievements and accomplishments as one of minor pro hockey's premiere veteran blue line aces. The right-hand shooting rearguard most recently completed two stellar seasons as an IceMen rival with the Wichita Thunder of the CHL. In 2011-12, in his second year of his second tour of duty with the latter club, he captained the Thunder to the CHL Berry Conference regular season crown as well as the league's President Cup Championship Finals. Despite injury, in 39-games, he engineered 21-points on 7-goals, 14-assists with 3-PPG, 6-PPA and solid +7 rating. In the playoffs, Tetrault emerged as the circuit's fourth top scoring back line standout, essaying 9-points in 16-appearances through 3-goals, 6-assists with 2-PPG and 1-GWG as those 3-total goals tied for league-wide second most and the 6-assists and 42-SOG listed him #3 in the loop in both categories.
GM/Coach Kromm expressed much enthusiasm in reaching accord with his 15th IceMen team signee. "Dan is a top, veteran who has always played with a lot of character and grit. He plays a physical game with considerable offensive upside. He should be a very steady addition and influence to our veteran group."
The product of LaBroquerie, Manitoba has actually plied his craft for five of the past seven years with Wichita with the other two seasons operating under the employ of the IHL Port Huron Icehawks. Tetrault topped the Port Huron blue line brigade in point productivity in both of those seasons; in 2009-10: 65(9-36-45) with an excellent +15 rating, ranking in the top 10 in the league in defense scoring. In 2008-09, he was 70(8-29-37) with a sparkling +21 rating, second best on the club in the latter department.
Tetrault's best pro season occurred in 2005-06 in Wichita, leading all CHL defensemen in scoring from the blue line with 64(15-42-57). In 2001-02 with Austin also of the CHL, he carded 58(11-32-43) with a brilliant +35 rating, second best for his team.
Evansville's newest defense bulwark was originally the fourth round pick, 91st overall of the Montreal Canadiens in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft following a masterful five-year major junior 'A' career in the WHL with the Brandon Wheat Kings.
Tetrault's pro career numbers read: 725-games; 114-goals; 300-assists; 414-points; 888-PIM.
