Evansville IceMen News Release
EVANSVILLE, IN.--- With the sights and sounds of their first-ever training camp as members of the ECHL ever so closer, the Evansville IceMen, proud ECHL affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets and St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League and the Springfield Falcons and Peoria Rivermen of the American Hockey League, have increased their overall roster to 15-players with 13 of those committed to contract deals and two more placed on tryout agreements.
On this date, the IceMen General Manager/Head Coach Rich Kromm has announced that right wings PATRICK KENNEDY and DANIEL MORIARTY have assented to terms with the Evansville club for the upcoming 2012-13 campaign. Adhering to club policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.
Set to enter his second full season in the professional ranks, KENNEDY, 23, is not in unfamiliar territory as far as ECHL on-ice warfare is concerned. The muscular 6-3, 203lb forward made his pro premiere in 2011-12 with both the Trenton Titans and Idaho Steelheads, playing a combined 41-games while collecting 19-points through 9-goals, 10-assists with 24-PIM. His offensive output included 4-PPG and 2-FG along with 77-SOG. Prior to his pro career debut of last season, the Dorchester, Ontario product enjoyed an outstanding four-year collegiate career at Cornell U., of the highly-prestigious Division I ECAC Conference. In 129-games collegiately, Kennedy registered 49-points on 17-goals, 32-assists with140-PIM. His best year came in 2009-10 when he collected 21-points in 30-games on 7-goals, 14-assists and 32-PIM.
GM/Coach Kromm is looking forward to Kennedy's arrival at the IceMen training headquarters. "Patrick is a big, strong, excellent skating forward who plays the game with a lot of character. We are looking for him to add some good size and speed to our lineup."
As for MORIARTY, 25, this will not be his first time around with the IceMen club. In fact, the rugged 5-9, 185lb sparkplug experienced a brief stint in Evansville near the conclusion of the 2011-12 season, arriving right off the campus of Harvard U., to show his wares in his pro debut. Signed as a free agent in March 2012, the Western Canadian-bred from Estevan, Saskatchewan unveiled his talents and overall ability in a pair of post-season playoff encounters donning the navy, sky and white of the hometown team. Prior to his advent to the Tri-State hockey region, Moriarty performed his craft in a four-year career with the Crimson. In 110-games, he essayed 41-points on 16-goals, 25-assists with 115-PIM. In his pre-college career, the rookie right wing saw action in the SJHL with the Melville Millionaires and the BCHL with the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.
Despite his brief stint with the IceMen late last season, Moriarty made a favorable impression on Coach Kromm. "Dan joined us late in the season and showed us some real positive signs through his style of play. He impressed us with his all-out physical play in providing our team lots of energy. He, too, plays with a lot of character and has shown at an early stage that he understands his role."
Today's signings of right wings PATRICK KENNEDY and DANIEL MORIARTY increase the total to 13-players committed contractually in the IceMen livery with two more personnel on the roster through standard ECHL tryout agreements. Kennedy and Moriarty join defensemen AARON GENS, MATT GENS, JAKE OBERMEYER, JESSE PERRIN, PHILIPPE PLANTE; left wings JOSH BEAULIEU, MARK CODY; centers JASON DALE, TODD ROBINSON; right wings DAN GENDUR, TYLER SHELAST. Goaltenders BRYAN GILLIS and PETER SKOGGARD have been signed to tryout deals.
