Bakersfield Condors News Release

Bakersfield, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors of the West Coast Hockey League prepare for three games in three nights this weekend, including two road games and a home match against the league-leading Idaho Steelheads on Saturday. That game starts at 7:00pm and doors open at 6:00pm.

On Friday, The Condors travel to Fresno for a 7:30pm start. The game can be heard on KGEO AM 1230, with "Condors Countdown" starting at 7:15pm. They hold a record of 11-1-1 against the Falcons this season. While the team is on the road on Friday, fans can still watch the team in action with another episode of "Condors Classics" on Time Warner Cable Ch. 21, starting at 7:00pm. This week's featured classic is the Condors final playoff game of 2001-02: the controversial "Goal-gate" match against the San Diego Gulls, which Bakersfield lost 3-2.

Saturday's match against the Idaho Steelheads features the third "Jersey Off Our Backs" raffle and auction, sponsored by KLLY 95.3 and Burlington Homes. The team will don specially designed jerseys for the night, compiled from submissions by fans during a jersey design contest earlier in the year. All fans in attendance will have the chance to win one of five jerseys to be raffled off throughout the night. The auction will take place at center ice during the first intermission and after the game. All proceeds will go towards CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Kern County.

In addition, the annual eyeglasses collection, sponsored by Smooth Jazz 97.7, will be held to benefit the Kern County Lions Club. Anyone donating a pair of slightly used eyeglasses will receive a free terrace ticket to the game. Collections are underway and fans may receive their free voucher by dropping off their donation at the Condors office, the Condors Closet retail outlet at 1022 Truxtun Avenue across from Centennial Garden, and Buckley Radio at 3651 Pegasus Drive.

Before Saturday's game, on Centennial Garden Plaza, join five local Christian rock bands for the annual Condors Christian Music Festival, sponsored by Jesus Shack. The event is free of charge and starts at 2:00pm. The bands performing are JITOW, 4th Man, Somewhere Outside, Testify and Absent Stone.

The Condors take to the road again on Sunday for the first of two straight games from the Long Beach Arena against the Ice Dogs. Game time is 4:00pm. All games, home and away, can be heard on KGEO AM 1230, with "Condors Countdown" starting 15 minutes prior to game time. Condors Broadcaster Kevin Bartl handles the play-by-play.

While the team is in Long Beach, fans in Bakersfield can take the ice for the final public skate of the season on Sunday, from 1:00-3:00pm. Admission is just $7, with limited skate rental available for $3.

Individual tickets can be purchased at the Centennial Garden Box Office, which is open from 10:00am-6:00pm Monday through Saturday, by calling Ticketmaster at 322-2525, online at ticketmaster.com or stopping by any Ticketmaster location. Group outings may be purchased by calling 324-PUCK (7825) or by visiting the Condors office next to Centennial Garden.

Condors droppings: The Condors Coach's Show takes place every Thursday from 6:00-7:00pm from the Holiday Inn Select at 801 Truxtun Avenue, and can be heard live on KGEO AM 1230. Join Condors Broadcaster Kevin Bartl and Head Coach Paul Kelly, and this week's guest, defenseman Wes Swinson for the inside scoop in CondorsTown. Tickets are on sale now for the fourth annual Tip-A-Condor dinner, to take place on Monday, March 24th from 6:00-9:00pm.
