
Condors Fight Back, But Idaho Scores Late For 3-2 Victory

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors (26-13-2-1, 55 points) erased a two-goal deficit, but ultimately fell 3-2 to the Idaho Steelheads (29-11-0-2, 60 points) in front of 6,694 fans at Rabobank Arena. Former Condor LW Mark Derlago tallied two-goals for Idaho, including the game-winner.
During a back-and-forth opening period, Idaho struck first with 2:55 remaining in the frame. Derlago redirected a shot from the point on a Steelheads power play to take the lead. Shots on goal were 11-9 in favor of the visitors. The Condors started G Timo Pielmeier, making his 12th consecutive appearance, while the Steelheads countered with rookie G Richard Bachman.
Idaho extended the lead early in the middle stanza, when LW Evan Barlow rifled in a power play tally at 4:53. Bakersfield answered, just 1:20 later when LW Shawn Weller maneuvered home his 18th of the season at 6:13 to pull within a goal. The Steelheads had the advantage in shots, 13-5 in the period, while only one penalty was called.
Bakersfield dominated the third period, out-shooting the Steelheads 13-3 in the period and finally tying it up. C Maxime Macenauer blasted home his third of the season at 4:13 to make it 2-2. The Condors held the Steelheads without a shot for the first 13-plus minutes of the period, but the Idaho power play proved to be too much. Derlago connected on a goal-mouth scramble for his second of the night, and the eighth power play goal of the weekend for the Steelheads, with just 4:14 left to go for the game winner. Weller and Mitera reassigned LW Shawn Weller and D Mark Mitera were reassigned by Anaheim to Abbotsford of the American Hockey League (AHL) following the game. Weller, 23, the captain, leads the Condors in goals (18), assists, (28), points (46), power play goals (7), plus/minus (+14) and shots (160) in 42 games. The South Glens Falls, New York, native has 134 games of AHL experience, registering 12 goals and 13 assists for 25 points. Mitera, 22, has 13 points (3g-10a) in 32 games with the Condors., including a four-game point streak (0g-4a). A native of Royal Oaks, Michigan, Mitera was a first round draft pick of Anaheim in 2006. Playing in his rookie season with the Condors, Mitera spent four years at the University of Michigan, finishing with 54 points (4g-50a) in 131 games. He's played in 10 AHL games over the past two seasons.
