Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Stockton, CA - In a Saturday night contest, the Victoria Salmon Kings and Stockton Thunder met in the finale of a three-game set at the Stockton Arena. Glenn Fisher got the nod in net for the Salmon Kings, while the Thunder started Bryan Pitton.

The two teams exchanged chances through the first 20 minutes in a very physical game, but the goaltenders held the scorers at bay. Fisher stopped the eight shots he faced, and Pitton shut the door on the nine shots that came his way.

The second period saw the physicality continue as well as the great goaltending. The flow of the game increased, but both Fisher and Pitton stood tall. Victoria registered 14 shots in the second period and Stockton had 11. The score remained scoreless through 40 minutes.

The third period was more of the same with teams trading chances, but neither side being able to score. The game would head to overtime. Off the opening face-off Wes Goldie snapped a shot that appeared to beat Pitton, but after a lengthy delay the referee deemed that it did not go in. Neither team was able to score, and the game would go to a shootout.

The shootout saw both teams get on the board in the third round. Salmon King Olivier Latendresse flipped the puck over top of Pitton, and Thunder defenseman Anthony Aiello fired a wrist shot past Fisher. After that both goaltenders closed the door. Finally in round 16 the shootout would end when Victoria's Andy Brandt beat Pitton with a backhand shot, and Fisher denied Matt Robinson. Salmon Kings 1 Thunder 0 in a shootout.

Victoria went 0/50.0% on the power play while Stockton was 0/50.0%. The Salmon Kings outshot the Thunder 34-31. The 16-round shootout was five rounds behind the ECHL record of 21 (Hampton Roads at Birmingham, Oct. 16, 1992).

Victoria now returns home to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre to host the Utah Grizzlies in a three-game set with matches on Wednesday, February 3rd, Friday, February 5th, and Saturday, February 6th. Puck drop for all three games versus Utah is 7:05 p.m. Next Friday is the fourth installment of the "Shuffle to Win" contest courtesy of Dave Wheaton GMC and the Times Colonist for a chance to win a brand new Cadillac SRX!
