Bakersfield Condors News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors, official ECHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks, have announced the return of two educational programs to reward Kern County students for excelling in the classroom. Both T.H.I.N.K. (Turn Hockey Into New Knowledge) and Classroom Champions are incentive-based programs, which reward students with Condors tickets for meeting scholastic goals established by the students' teacher or school.

T.H.I.N.K.

The T.H.I.N.K. program, sponsored by Mercy and Memorial Hospitals and Diamond Technologies, rewards students who meet academic achievement and/or behavioral goals. In order for the school to most effectively utilize the Condors educational program, the specific criterion for obtaining a ticket to a Condors game will be determined by the individual school or teacher.

Additionally, each student who successfully completes the T.H.I.N.K. program and attends a Condors game will be entered into a drawing to win a brand-new computer, courtesy of Diamond Technologies.

Schools participating in the T.H.I.N.K. program will be able to choose one Condors game for students to attend from the dates below:

- Saturday, Dec, 13 vs. Las Vegas Wranglers - Scooby-Doo & Sing for Santa (12 p.m.) - Saturday, Jan. 24 vs. Ontario Reign - Jersey Raffle and Auction (7 p.m.) - Saturday, Feb. 7 vs. Idaho Steelheads - ZOOperstars (7 p.m.) - Saturday, Feb. 21 vs. Victoria Salmon Kings - The Veggie Tales & motivational speaker (7 p.m.) - Sunday, March 1 vs. Las Vegas Wranglers - Dora the Explorer (2 p.m.)

Classroom Champions

The Classroom Champions program, sponsored by ABC23, SC Architect Inc. and Kern County Firefighters provides tangible rewards for students that achieve outstanding attendance levels at school. Like the T.H.I.N.K. program, the specific attendance criterion is to be determined by the individual school or teacher.

Below are the dates from which schools participating in the Classroom Champions program may choose to attend:

- Saturday, Nov. 22 vs. Phoenix RoadRunners - Oakland Raiderettes (7 p.m.) - Friday, Dec. 26 vs. Stockton Thunder - LA Laker Girls and Boxing Day Collection (7 p.m.) - Friday, April 3 vs. Ontario Reign - Fans Choice (7 p.m.)

Students that meet the guidelines of the selected educational program will receive a voucher for the school's specific Condors game. With that voucher, the student's parents may purchase up to two additional tickets for a discounted price of only $7.

Also, to help motivate the students to successfully meet their educational goals, the Condors will organize players and/or mascots, to attend a school assembly and encourage students to effectively complete their educational program.

Last year more than two dozen schools and over 7,000 students participated in a Condors educational program. To participate in either Condors educational program please contact Community Relations Manager Brian Marsh at 324-PUCK (7825).
