Charlotte, NC. - The Checkers played their first of a three games in three nights stint and it didn't start well as they lost the South Carolina Stingrays by a 6-1 score.

In the first period, the only goal was tallied by the Stingrays when a shot by South Carolina forward Trent Campbell bounced off the far pad of Checkers netminder Jeff Jakaitis right to Stingrays winger Steve Pinizzotto who slammed it hoome at 13:19 giving South Carolina a 1-0 lead.

In the second period, the Stingrays scored their second goal of the contest after a centering attempt by Matt Scherer hit the stick of Checkers defenseman Julien Brouillette and slid into the net past Jakaitis at 6:30. The Checkers finally got on the board when forward Mike Taylor fired a shot past Stingrays goalie Bobby Goepfert on a nice pass from Peter-James Corsi at 12:47. This cut the lead down to 2-1. It wouldn't take long for the Stingrays to strike again when Michael Dubuc fired a shot that fooled Jakaitis putting South Carolina up 3-1 after forty minutes.

The Stingrays would score three more goals in the third period to solidify their victory as they got power play tallies from Maxime Lacroix at 1:24, Keith Johnson at Dubuc for his second 11:14 as the Stingrays skated away with a 6-1 victory.
