Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors lost to the Idaho Steelheads, 4-3, in a shootout Saturday night in front of 6,010 at Rabobank Arena in downtown Bakersfield. The Condors picked up one point and extended their unbeaten streak to six games (4-0-2) tonight.
The Condors (12-20-8, 32 points) broke the goose eggs on the scoreboard with a pair of goals in just 1:19 of game time midway through the opening frame. LW Mark Derlago received a perfect pass from D David Kudelka on the edge of the crease, and slipped it through Idaho G Matt Zaba's five-hole for his 17th goal of the year and ninth in his last six games. F Sean Venedam put the Condors up, 2-0, with his 11th tally of the campaign after snapping the rebound from a D Kevin Truelson slap shot into the Steelheads (22-13-7, 51 points) cage.
Idaho's veteran LW Marty Flichel cut Bakersfield's lead to 2-1 at the 9:00 mark of the second period with a one-timer power-play goal from the left point that made its way through traffic and past Condors G Michel Robinson.
Bakersfield RW Chris Di Ubaldo, playing in just his fourth game with the Condors, netted his first professional North American goal eight minutes into the final stanza to stretch the Condors lead back to two goals. With just over seven minutes to go in the third, the Condors took two penalties on one play, setting up a two-man Steelheads advantage that proved costly for Bakersfield. Idaho LW John Lammers scored on the five-on-three power play and LW Lance Galbraith scored on the five-on-four power play, tying the game at 3-3 and setting up the overtime session.
Neither team broke the tie in overtime, sending the game to a shootout. Both teams exchanged two goals early in the shootout, but the Steelheads emerged victorious with a goal from their seventh, and final, shooter, F Taggart Desmet.
Notes: LW Mark Derlago extended his goal streak to six games, with nine goals during the streak. C Tim Konsorada (4g, 4a) and F Sean Venedam (1g, 5a) also extended their point streaks to six games tonight. G Michel Robinson made 40 saves on 43 shots.
