Fresno Falcons News Release
Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons won their fifth straight home game on Sunday, defeating the Stockton Thunder 5-2 in front of 3,648 fans at Save Mart Center. The win is Matt Thomas' 100th victory as the Falcons head coach.
Fresno scored the lone goal of the first period on a power-play opportunity at 2:37. Luke Curtin's shot was knocked down in front, but rolled right to P.O. Beaulieu in the left-wing circle, and he pushed the puck into the net for his ninth goal of the season, matching his career total from his first two seasons combined.
The Falcons' special teams again went to work late in the second period, this time scoring shorthanded, to extend the lead to 2-0 after 40 minutes of play. John Morlang won a face-off in the left-wing circle to Matt Quinn at the hash marks, and he one-timed a shot past goaltender Glenn Fisher for his fifth of the season.
Eizenman scored Fresno's second power-play goal of the night 1:21 into the third period to make it a 3-0 lead. Eizenman poked a loose puck on the far post underneath Fisher for his team-leading 23rd goal of the season.
Stockton got on the board at the three-minute mark as Geoff Paukovich centered in front for David Rohlfs, and he one-timed a shot past Kris Mayotte to cut Fresno's lead to 3-1.
Fresno scored two goals in a span of 27 seconds to take a 5-1 lead midway through the final period. Kenny MacAulay scored his fourth goal of the year at 8:37, taking a feed from Kenny Bernard and beating Fisher over the glove from the left-wing circle.
Joe Grimaldi scored his first goal with the Falcons at 9:04 to make it 5-1. Grimaldi took a long pass from Beaulieu and beat Fisher from the left-wing side.
Stockton's Pat Bateman scored a power-play goal at 11:21 to set the final.
