Third time isn't the charm, 'Catters trip up pack 6-3

BILOXI, MS - The Texas Wildcatters defeated the Mississippi Sea Wolves 6-2 to take the third game between the two teams this weekend on Sunday afternoon at Ford Arena in Beaumont, Texas.

The Wildcatters got on the board when Max Taylor's point shot was deflected by Kevin Baker and trickled through Sea Wolves goaltender Ryan Munce for a power play goal at 6:47 of the first period. Texas would double up their lead when Dan Welch cut down the left side of the ice, deked Munce to the ice and deposited the puck behind him for a 2-0 lead at 7:33 of the first period.

Chris Cava got Mississippi on the board at the 2:38 mark of the second period when his shot from the top of the slot beat Texas goalie Jeff Pietrasiak through a screen to cut the lead to one. Cleve Kinley made it 3-1 for Texas with hi s fifth goal of the season as he fired Brandon Benedict's cross-ice feed past Munce at 15:22 of the second. Troy Riddle's third of the season gave Texas a 4-1 lead at 18:27 of the second when he tapped the rebound of John McNabb's shot past Munce.

Mississippi would cut the lead to two when Mark Hurtubise found the back of the net on a backdoor pass at 9:23 of the third period, but that would be as close as the Sea Wolves would get. Texas would add goals from Ross Carlson at 13:36, and Kevin Baker at 17:15 to secure the win.

Mississppi was 0-for-8 on the power play, and Ryan Munce made 28 saves taking the loss.
