Chiefs Bow To Royals

Johnstown, PA - The Chiefs scored early but failed to keep the lead as Reading scored three unanswered goals at the War Memorial for a 3-1 victory.
Johnstown would find the score sheet first. Jean Desrochers lifted the puck past Reading's Jonathan Quick for his 18th goal of the season from Mike Sgroi and Rob Drummond at 3:46 of the first period. The Royals would tie the game up 1:03 into the second period. Kevin Saurette tallied his seventh of the year in a short-handed effort. Brock Hooton and Mike Salekin fed Saurette on a breakaway, and he slipped it past Andrew Penner to bring the game to a 1-1 deadlock.
Reading would pull ahead halfway through the second period as Saurette notched his second goal of the game, assisted by Salekin and Brian Boulay. Rob LaLonde potted his seventh of the year for the Royals at the 12:00 mark of the second to make the score 3-1.
A scrum to the right of Quick left the Chiefs two men short late in the second. Mike Knight attempted to overcome the two goal deficit on a breakaway, shooting just wide of the net. Rob Drummond and Codey Burki also broke into the Reading zone short-handed, but the puck sailed over the crossbar.
Neither team would score in the third period, the Chiefs unable to rally. Johnstown failed to capitalize on the man advantage, going 0-for-4 on the power play. Andrew Penner took the loss in net turning aside 18 of Reading's 21 shots.
The Chiefs' next home game is on February 2 when Dayton comes to town for AAA Night. All AAA members can receive discounted tickets at the War Memorial box office by showing their membership cards.
