Comets Loan Michael Garteig to Kalamazoo, Release Mathieu Brodeur

Utica, NY - Utica Comets General Manager Ryan Johnson announced today that the club has returned goaltender Michael Garteig on loan to the Kalamazoo Wings. In a separate transaction, Mathieu Brodeur has been released from his professional tryout contract.

Garteig, 26, has appeared in 18 games with the Kalamazoo Wings this season posting a record of 8-9-0 with a .885 save percentage and a 3.99 goals against average. The goaltender appeared in eight games with the Comets last season collecting a record of 0-4-2 with a .897 save percentage and a 3.01 goals against average.

In 2015-16, he completed his senior season with Quinnipiac University, leading the Bobcats to the ECAC Championship and a berth in the NCAA National Championship. In 43 games played, the Prince George, British Columbia, native posted a record of 32-4-7, along with a career-best .924 save percentage and a 1.91 goals against average.

Brodeur skated in four games with the Comets this week, registering one assist and two penalty minutes. He has played a majority of the season in the ECHL with the Adirondack Thunder registering 22 points (3-19-22) in 35 games played. Last season, the 6-5, 215-pound defenseman appeared in 56 games with the Syracuse Crunch totaling 13 points (3-10-13). The Montreal, Quebec native also dressed in 22 games during the Calder Cup Playoffs collecting four points (1-3-4). The 27-year-old has played in 318 career AHL games totaling 68 points (15-53-68) and 240 penalty minutes.

Brodeur was originally selected by the Phoenix Coyotes in the third round, 76th overall, at the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
