Moose Fall to Chicago 5-2

The Manitoba Moose (34-15-4-3) finished off a back-to-back set against the Chicago Wolves (28-18-6-2) at Bell MTS Place on Sunday afternoon. The opening frame was a defensive struggle with scoring chances at a premium. Chicago scored the lone marker in the first, with Teemu Pulkkinen tipping home a Griffiin Reinhart point shot to open the scoring at 11:34 of the period. Eric Comrie made 12 saves for the Moose while Kasimir Kaskisuo turned aside all 10 Moose shots as Chicago took a 1-0 lead to the break.

The Wolves added to their lead midway through the second period courtesy of a T.J. Tynan shorthanded goal at the 9:58 mark. Just over two minutes later, Beau Bennett put away a rebound on the power play to make it a 3-0 Chicago advantage. Manitoba got on the board with 2:03 remaining in the period as a rebound hopped into the net off the skate of Brendan Lemieux with the Moose on the power play. That tally kept the home side in striking distance, trailing 3-1 after 40 minutes.

Chicago opened the third period by extending the lead when Zac Leslie fired a shot through a crowd in front to make it a 4-1 game at 4:15 of the frame. Manitoba got back within two at 7:54 of the third on Lemieux's second of the night, scored just after a Moose power play came to a close. The Wolves dampened hopes of a Moose comeback at 13:03 when Teemu Pulkkinen tallied his second of the night. Manitoba fired 21 shots on goal in the third, but the score held at 5-2 in favour of Chicago.

Quick Hits

Brendan Lemieux has multi-goal games in two of his last three games, and five goals in his last four contests.

Today's loss was Manitoba's first in regulation against Chicago in six meetings.

Head Coach Pascal Vincent - "(Chicago) scored two goals on their power play, and one goal on their penalty kill. So that's three goals right there. When your five-on-five play is not going, your special teams, most of the time, are not going to work. Yesterday was a good 60 minutes, this game today was not."

Forward Brody Sutter -"It's just about the 60 minutes that we talk about all the time. I think even during the game today we had great momentum, we were moving well, getting pucks deep, and having a lot of good chances. Penalties happen and the momentum changes and we just have to figure out a way to come out of that slump that we have when a few minutes don't go our way. We just need to focus here in this coming week and find out what we need to do to get ourselves even keeled, which is important moving forward."
