Shot-Heavy Roadrunners Held Scoreless against San Antonio

Despite outshooting the San Antonio Rampage 44-11 Saturday night at Tucson Arena, the Roadrunners suffered their first shutout loss of the season, falling 1-0 in overtime.

The Roadrunners' 11 shots allowed is the fewest the team has granted an opponent in a single game in franchise history.

San Antonio's 11 shots is also the fewest by any AHL team this season - the Ontario Reign held the San Diego Gulls to 12 on November 11, 2017.

"I thought we played pretty well," said head coach Mike Van Ryn. "In the second period we had a lot of good chances in tight, but we just couldn't elevate the puck enough, we had [Ville Husso] down and out a few times but just couldn't manage to raise the puck over top of him. We had more than enough looks to win the game."

The Roadrunners outshot the Rampage 15-4 in the first period, 18-3 in the second period, and 11-3 in the third period.

"You're in the game, you're watching what your team is doing, you're always in it," Adin Hill said of facing such a low count of shots. "You're not dozing off or anything, you're focused on the game and waiting for that next shot to come."

One shot in overtime is all it took as the Rampage, who were working on a power play that carried over from the third period, secured the win 27 seconds into the extra frame off of a goal from Andrew Agozzino.

The Roadrunners are now 8-3 in overtime this season, and 9-3-1 in games that extend past regulation.

The Roadrunners begin a three-game road trip Wednesday night when they take on the Grand Rapids Griffins at Van Andel Arena, where the puck is scheduled to drop just after 5:00 PM MST.
