Utica Comets News Release

A typical job description for players on the Utica Comets involves taking over a game, but last Thursday night it went to a whole new level at the Fantasy Fun Factory in Washington Mills. Four Comets players, along with Audie, were on hand for a night of fun in support of the Munchkin Comets Kids Club as children from throughout the Mohawk Valley were in attendance for an eventful night.

Peter Andersson, Darren Archibald, Alex Friesen and Henrik Tommernes were on hand for a night that was enjoyed as much by the children as it was by the team.  Kids got the chance to play air hockey and skee-ball, amongst other arcade games, with their favorite Comets players and mascot. In addition, the Comets were all eager to sign autographs for some of their youngest fans.

"We are very fortunate to have an AHL team in Utica, we are even more fortunate that the players are genuinely nice guys," Jennifer Battista, parent of a kids club member, said. "I wanted to thank you for a fun evening tonight. My son, Louis, was speechless when Henrik Tommernes asked him to play air hockey. I think they both enjoyed themselves."

In addition to an amusing night at the Factory, the Comets didn't forget about the many different ways they can help children.  The Stuff The Bus Campaign collected over 15,000 toys for children in need throughout the Mohawk Valley in 2012 and are aiming to do so again this year.

Last evening, the Comets continued their support for the Stuff The Bus campaign.  Comet forwards Brett Lyon and Stefan Chaput were at the New Hartford Shopping Center to aid in the collection of toys for children in need throughout the Central New York area.

Last Friday, in partnership with Birnie Bus, the Comets offered $12 dollar tickets for anyone who came to the game with an unwrapped toy to support the charity. The support was extended to a bus driven on the ice during the first intermission of the Comets and Sound Tigers game.

Three members of the Comets official dance team, The Comettes, joined Chaput and Lyon as they greeted fans in front of the Stuff the Bus Headquarters in New Hartford. The players signed autographs for anyone who brought in a toy to support the cause.

Alex Biega and Patrick Mullen will be at the Shopping Center, located on Genesee St, tomorrow evening from 5:30 to 6:30 to further support the cause. Comets fans are encouraged to attend to assist and support children in need, as well as meet two of their favorite Comets.
