
Crunch Toppled by IceCaps 5-1

Syracuse, NY- The Syracuse Crunch were toppled by the St. John's IceCaps 5-1 tonight at the Mile One Centre in St. John's Newfoundland.
The club's fourth consecutive loss drops the Crunch to an overall record of 11-10-1-2 and 7-5-1-0 record on the road. Crunch netminder Cedrick Desjardins allowed five goals on 36 shots while IceCaps goaltender Eddie Pasquale stopped 25 of 26 shots faced. Syracuse maintains the league's best road penalty kill, holding St. John's scoreless on four power-play opportunities.
St. John's carried a 1-0 lead into the first intermission thanks to defenseman Brenden Kichton who scored the period's only goal. Kichton beat Desjardins with a backhander assisted by Eric O'Dell at the 12:47 mark.
The IceCaps opened the middle frame with two goals in 23 seconds to quickly extend their lead to 3-0. With Mike Angelidis and Jerome Samson serving offsetting minor penalties Zach Redmond scored at the 2:37 mark, assisted by Jason Jaffray followed by Kyle MacKinnon, assisted by O'Dell.
MacKinnon scored his second goal of the night, and of the season, 24 seconds into the final frame to extend St. John's lead to 4-0. The goal was scored during another period of four-on-four hockey with Geoff Walker and Will O'Neill serving corresponding roughing penalties.
Philip-Michael Devos put the Crunch on the board with his first goal of the season 3:37 into the final frame. Devos beat Pasquale from the right wing circle, assisted by Dmitry Korobov.
With the Crunch on their third power-play opportunity IceCaps captain Jaffray forced a turnover and scored shorthanded for the final margin of 5-1.
