
Comeback Cut Short as Hens Fall

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The hot Toledo Mud Hens offense continued as six Hens players recorded two hits, but the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs came out victorious with a walk-off single to win 6-5 on Sunday afternoon at Coca-Cola Field.
The two through seven hitters for Toledo each recorded two hits as the team hit for .350 on the afternoon. The Mud Hens left nine runners on base and gave up two solo home runs in the loss.
In the first inning, Christin Stewart roped a ball of the right-field fence recording a single and reaching base safely in his 24th consecutive road game, which is the longest active streak in the international league. Hens (35-20) starter A.J. Ladwig was able to take down the Iron Pigs (30-25) in order with only five pitches.
Chad Huffman reached base on a single in the second inning, followed by Edwin Espinal and Grayson Greiner who also reached on singles to load the bases with one out. Toledo did not convert, and left runners stranded. Lehigh Valley was able to plate the games first run in the bottom half of the second.
The Iron Pigs used three consecutive hits and a fielder's choice to score two runs and take a 3-0 advantage heading into the fourth inning.
The offense went quiet until the sixth inning as Dawel Lugo recorded a hit for his 13th consecutive game with a hit. Stewart followed it up with his second single of the game to put runners on first and second with no outs. Jason Krizan sent a single to right field that scored Lugo and gave the Mud Hens it's first run of the game. Chad Huffman then singled just past the shortstop, and Stewart scored on the play.
Lehigh Valley made a pitching change after the RBI single by Huffman, bringing on Jake Thompson to replace Ben Lively . After the top of the sixth inning, Toledo still trailed 3-2.
The Iron Pigs were able to get a run back in the seventh on a solo home run by Matt McBride .
To lead off the eighth inning, Mickie Mahtook flared a ball to shallow right field for a single. Krizan followed that up with a triple off the right-field wall, giving him his second RBI of the game. Espinal took his turn and sent a ball to shallow right field for an RBI single scoring Krizan and tying the game at four.
Going into the ninth tied, Lugo reached first on a base hit off the glove of pitcher Pedro Beato with one out. During the at bat of Stewart, Lugo advanced to second on a passed ball and then during the at bat of Mahtook, Lugo took third on a wild pitch. Mahtook then singled to left to score Lugo and gave the Hens a one run advantage going into the bottom of the ninth.
In the bottom half of the inning, Nick Rickles led off with a solo home run to tie the game at five. Alexi Amerista hit an RBI single to end the game as the Iron Pigs avoided a sweep and won 6-5.
Ladwig's evening came to an end after seven innings of work allowing four runs, three earned, on six hits. He also recorded one strike out and did not walk a batter. Kevin Comer came in in relief to throw the eighth and allowed zero runs on one hit and punched out two batters. Paul Voelker came in to close in the ninth and gave up a lead-off home run and an RBI walk-off single from Alexi Amarista . Voelker ended with one third of an inning pitched, giving up two earned runs on three hits.
What's Next:
The Mud Hens take tomorrow off before returning to Fifth Third Field for six straight home games. The Buffalo Bisons will make the trip to Toledo for a three-game series. The first pitch on Tuesday night is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

- Toledo is now 11-6 in one run games.
- Lugo has recorded a hit in 13 consecutive games which paces the IL for the longest active streak.
- With today's 14 hit game, Toledo has had 25 double-digit hit games this season, recording a 20-5 record in such games.
