Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs walked off 6-5 against the Toledo Mud Hens on Sunday to close out their six-game homestand. The Pigs rallied for two runs in the bottom of the ninth after surrendering an early three-run lead to avoid the sweep.
Lehigh Valley attacked starter AJ Ladwig early, bringing across a run in the second inning on a groundout by Logan Moore, then two more in the third inning on a base hit from Danny Ortiz and a fielder's choice by Joey Meneses.
Ladwig made it into the seventh inning, keeping the game close, but Matt McBride gave the Pigs some insurance with his second home run in as many games, this time a solo shot to left field.
After Toledo rallied to take the lead in the ninth inning, the Pigs were quick to respond, as Nick Rickles lead off the final at-bat with his fifth home run of the season to tie the game. Following a single by Logan Moore and a sacrifice bunt to advance pinch-runner Collin Cowgill, Alexi Amarista slapped one up the middle to score the run and earn the Pigs' second walk-off win of the year.
Ben Lively pitched well for the IronPigs until running into trouble in the sixth inning. The Mud Hens brought across two runs on four hits in the sixth before Lively was lifted for Jake Thompson. Thompson kept the lead intact by striking out five of the six batters he faced.
Yacksel Rios came on to pitch for Lehigh Valley in the eighth with a two-run lead, but gave up three base hits and blew the save before being lifted for Pedro Beato. A pair of wild pitches by Beato and a single from Mikie Mahtook gave Toledo the lead before the walk off.
Adron Chambers was nearly perfect at the plate for the Pigs, going 3-for-4 and coming just a home run shy of the cycle. Dean Anna continued his streak of timely hitting for Lehigh Valley with a single and a run scored.
The Pigs have a much needed off day tomorrow before they travel to Georgia to begin a six-game road trip against the Gwinnett Stripers and the Charlotte Knights. Cole Irvin will take the mound for Lehigh Valley on Tuesday, with first pitch coming at 7:05 p.m. The Pigs return to Coca-Cola Park on Monday, June 11th to face the Buffalo Bisons. That game will be a TD Bank Dog Day in which fans can bring their dogs to Coca-Cola Park. A fleece blanket, presented by Capital BlueCross, will be given to 3,000 fans 18-and-over.
The 2018 Season is the IronPigs' 11th season at Coca-Cola Park and 11th as the top affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies.
