Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Chiefs picked up eight hits but managed only one run in a 5-1 loss to the Columbus Clippers on Sunday afternoon at NBT Bank Stadium. The Chiefs left seven runners on base and went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position. Bengie Gonzalez posted three hits for Syracuse in the game.

Columbus (26-28) scored the game's first run in the top of the second inning. Brandon Barnes led off with a single and stole second base. Two batters later, Francisco Mejia singled, scoring Barnes for a 1-0 Clippers lead.

Syracuse (26-28) tied the game in the bottom of the second. Matt Hague singled to begin the frame. Hague moved to second base on an errant throw during a pickoff attempt. Three batters later, Jake Lowery singled to right field to bring home Hague and knot the game, 1-1.

The Clippers regained the lead in the fifth. With two outs, Lonnie Chisenhall doubled. Barnes followed with a double to score Chisenhall for a 2-1 Columbus advantage. Yu Chang then grounded a ball to short where Chiefs shortstop Bengie Gonzalez fielded the ball but made an errant throw to first, allowing Barnes to come home and make it a 3-1 Clippers edge.

Columbus added to its lead in the eighth. With one out Mejia doubled and Eric Haase walked to put runners on first and second. Nellie Rodriguez then doubled home both Mejia and Haase to extend the Clippers lead to four, 5-1.
