August 15, 2011 - North American League (NAmL)
San Angelo Colts News Release
Edinburg, Texas---On the last day to finalize rosters in the North American League, Doc Edwards added three new players to his roster for the drive to the playoffs. The Colts signed two former McAllen Thunder players, catcher Matt Redding and designated hitter Brian Nichols, and made a trade with the Edinburg Roadrunners to bring infielder C.J. Beatty to San Angelo. All three players will be in the lineup Monday night for the Colts.
Redding replaced injured catcher Trey Carter on the roster. Carter was inactivated following a shoulder injury suffered in Saturday night's game. Redding started the season with Lake County before moving to McAllen. With the two teams he combined to hit .157 with one home run and 15 runs batted in.
Nichols hit .290 with 17 home runs and 54 RBI in 27 games for the Thunder. San Angelo will complete the deal with McAllen for Nichols when the team returns home Tuesday morning.
To make room for Beatty, the Colts sent infielder/outfielder Clint Stroud to Edinburg, so the two will simply switch sides for Monday night's game. Beatty is hitting .326 with 13 home runs and 54 RBI in 74 games with the Roadrunners.
