2B Pino and RHP Barnard Earn Weekly Honors in North American League

(San Ramon, CA) The North American League, one of the premier independent professional baseball leagues on the continent, announced today that Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings second baseman Wilmer Pino and San Angelo Colts RHP Chandler Barnard have been named the Rawlings Players of the Week for the week of August 7th.

Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings second baseman Wilmer Pino went 18 for 32 last week, for a .563 batting average. The 25 year old hit two homeruns, contributing to his RBI total of 10 on the week. He also had 4 doubles and a stolen base. Pino was signed as an international free agent by the New York Yankees and made his professional debut with their rookie league team in 2005 as a 19 year old. Pino would spend three years in the Yankees' system. This season, the second baseman is hitting .367 with 11 homeruns and 47 RBI.

San Angelo Colts right handed pitcher Chandler Barnard has been one of the North American League's best pitchers in 2011. Last week, Barnard made two starts, picking up wins in each and pitching a total of 16 innings. In his first start last week, the 25 year old surrendered just two runs in 7 innings. In the second start, Barnard pitched a complete game, giving up just 1 unearned run. In his 16 innings pitched last week, Barnard recorded 11 strikeouts with just 2 walks. Chandler Barnard has never pitched in affiliated ball, but that could change soon if he keeps up his current pace. Barnard is tied for the league lead in wins with 10 and 2nd place in strikeouts with 86. He has a 3.16 ERA through 99.2 innings pitched.
