Colts Barrie the Dogs 7-2 in Niagara

An offensive explosion in Niagara, powered the Barrie Colts to a 7-2 win over the IceDogs Friday night.
The Barrie Colts made their way to Niagara on Friday evening to take on their division rival Niagara Icedogs. The two teams came into this game separated by nine points in the standings, and with a Barrie win the Colts would all but seal another division crown.
The scoring got started late in the opening frame. It was of course the OHL's leading scorer Aaron Luchuk adding to his total. On a break into the Niagara zone it was Dmitry Sokolov beating a defender with a tricky move at the blueline. He then fired a shot on goal that Stephen Dhillon was able to stop, but right there on the rebound was Luchuk who put it home for his 44th of the season. The goal by Luchuk would extend his point streak to 19 straight games. The point by the Colts overager also put him at the century mark for points on the season.
Before the buzzer would sound Kirill Maksimov would find a way to tie things up and send the game into the second period 1-1.
Another point streak would continue for the Colts as we hit the second period. It was Andrei Svechnikov putting it home after a beautiful toe drag to beat a defender. The Russian rookie put home his 32nd of the season extending his point streak to 16 straight games. Joey Keane and Sokolov assisted on the go ahead goal.
They would add to the lead as a two on one would shape up. Zach Magwood would sauce over a pass to Colts rookie Ryan Suzuki who one timed it home to give the Colts a 3-1 lead. Lucas Chiodo also assisted on Suzuki's 12th goal of the season.
Late in the third the Colts top line would strike again. The third different linemate would find the back of the net. It was Sokolov on the strangest of goals. He tried to put a backhander in front of the net, but instead the puck would bounce off a defenders stick and right towards the net beating Dhillon over his should to extend the Barrie lead to 4-1. Aidan Brown and Tyler Tucker would add assists on his 43rd goal of the season.
Barrie would continue their flurry of goals into the third period. Brown would pick up a loose puck in the neutral zone that he moved to the far wing to Jason Willms. He then gave it back to the high slot for Jaden Peca who would then snap it home for the 5-1 lead. The goal was his 15th of the season.
The four-goal lead was short lived, as just moments later the Dogs would strike. William Lochead put one past Lazarev to bring it back to a three-goal lead.
That wouldn't stop Barrie from answering again though. Just moments after the IceDogs would cut into the lead, Barrie would restore it. It was Suzuki again finishing off the two on one to give the Colts a 6-2 lead.
Joey Keane would snap home his 11th of the season to give Barrie the 7-2 lead.
Barrie is back in action tomorrow night to wrap up their weekend. They play host to the Kingston Frontenacs who sit in third place in the Eastern Conference.
