IceDogs Fall to Colts 7-2
March 2, 2018 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release
Your Niagara IceDogs were back in action Friday night, following a tight overtime loss to the Hamilton Bulldogs. The 'Dogs were looking to continue their point streak alive as the Barrie Colts made their final visit to the Meridian Centre this regular season. Despite only having one win against the Colts this season, the scores were not indicative of how narrow each game has been between these two Central Division rivals. The Colts came into tonight's game having won 3 of their last 5 games, while the 'Dogs have won two.
The Colts struck first just after a powerplay, but their lead didn't last long, as Kirill Maksimov scored to tie the game in the dying minutes of the period. Johnny Corneil was sprung on a breakaway and had been stopped by Lazarev, but Maksi pounced on the rebound, and buried the puck into a near empty net. Maksimov's 32nd goal of the season was assisted by Captain Corneil, and Elijah Roberts. The 1-1 tie carried into the second period. Barrie regained the lead with two unanswered goals in the first half of the second period. The 'Dogs continued to press in the 2nd, but they couldn't slip one past Lazarev. The Colts added another goal before the end of the period to bring a 4-1 lead into the third.
The IceDogs had a powerplay carry over into the third from the ending of the second period, but Lazarev continue to stop everything that came his way. The Colts added another goal to extend their lead to 4, but just 30 seconds later, Will Lochead scored his 4th goal of the season to cut their lead to 3. Shortly thereafter, the 4-goal lead was restored as the Colts scored off of what looked like a broken play. The Colts added another goal to make it 7-2
The 7-2 score held. The IceDogs are back on home ice Sunday afternoon as the Peterborough Petes come to town for a matinee to close out the weekend.
