New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[ RIO RANCHO, N.M.]- The New Mexico Scorpions, proud member of the Central Hockey League (CHL), saw their three game home winning streak snapped as Colorado won 5-2. It was the second night the Eagles prevailed over the Scorpions.
Unlike last night where the teams combined for five first period goals, only three found their way to the back of the net. Riley Nelson started things off with a shorthanded goal at the 6:15 mark.
The Scorpions tied the score when Mike Prpich powered a goal past Eagles goalie Tim Boron. Colorado went back to the power play late in the first period and made the most of it as Aaron Schneekloth notched his third goal of the season giving the Eagles a one goal lead at the break.
Like last night, Colorado took advantage in the second period. Greg Pankewicz continued his success against the Scorpions. The Colorado captain extended his team's lead with a power play goal in the middle of the second period.
Just a few minutes later the Eagles would add to their special night with a second shorthanded goal. Craig Hartsburg used his speed and skill with a breakaway goal giving the Eagles their biggest lead of the game at 5-1.
The Scorpions came out with fire and passion in the third period, but could not overcome the mountain they needed to climb. Prpich added his second goal of the night. For good measure Ryan Tobler scored his first goal of the year late in the third period, on the power play, giving the Eagles all the offense they needed.
The Scorpions will spend a week away from home in the coming days. The South Texas swing is upon New Mexico . The Scorpions will face Laredo Wednesday, Rio Grande Valley Friday and Corpus Christi Saturday.
