
Bucks Beat Mudbugs In OT, Rookie Chaumont Pots Another Sudden Death Winner

LAREDO, Texas - The defending CHL President's Cup Champion Laredo Bucks rallied for an early two goal deficit and beat the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 3-2 in sudden death overtime in front of 5,515 fans at the LEC on Saturday. Rookie forward Bobby Chaumont scored his second overtime winner of the season to give Laredo their fourth straight win and improve them to a Southeast Division best 6-3-0 with 12 points. The Bucks are home on Wednesday against the New Mexico Scorpions. Face off set for 7 p.m. It is the third annual UT vs. Texas A&M Teddy Bear toss. Fans are invited to bring a new or gently used stuffed animal to the game. Also the LEC is offering $1 draft beer from 6 p.m. till the end of the first period intermission. The Bucks are offering a family four pack of season tickets for the 2006-07 CHL regular season, which works out to just over $7 a seat per game and is a 48 % savings off walkup prices. Bossier-Shreveport took the early lead. Forward Chris Brassard blasted a shot from the left point that was stopped, but forward Dan Wildfong managed to slide the rebound into the net at 7:12. Just over three minutes later Brassard scored a power play goal on a one timer set up by Wildfong to make it 2-0. Late in the period the Bucks got on the scoreboard. Forward Ladislav Kouba stole the puck and centered to cutting forward Leo Thomas who stuffed in the rebound of his own shot at 19:40. It was the third straight game with a goal for Thomas and his third of the season.
Neither team scored in the second period as they traded chances.
In the third period the Bucks tied the game as Thomas rushed down the right wing and scored on a snap shot from the right circle for his second of the game at 7:28. The game then headed to overtime.
In sudden death with less than a minute to go the Bucks created a chance. Rookie forward Chris Korchinski rushed down the right side and drew a penalty. With the delayed call coming up Korchinski centered to Chaumont who ripped a one-timer into the cage for the game winning goal. FINAL SCORE Laredo 3, Bossier Shreveport 2 sudden death.
Eric Marvin stopped 30 of 32 shots and improved to 4-1-0. John Decaro allowed three goals on 39 shots and fell to 2-2-3. The Bucks were 0-6 on the power play, while Bossier was 1-4. Laredo out shot the Mudbugs 39-36.
