Colorado Eagles News Release


Windsor, CO – The Colorado Eagles of the Central Hockey League (CHL) are 13-5-1 on the 2003-04 season. The Eagles take on the New Mexico Scorpions Wednesday, December 3; face-off is set for 7:05 p.m. at the Budweiser Events Center. The team will then leave for a four game road trip against; the Corpus Christi Ice Rays Friday, December 5 at 6:05 pm. (MST); the Laredo Bucks Saturday, December 6 at 6:05 p.m. (MST); the Rio Grande Killer Bees Sunday, December 7 at 5:05 p.m. (MST); and the San Angelo Saints Monday, December 8 at 6:05 p.m. (MST).

WEEK IN REVIEW

November 26 – Colorado Eagles vs Memphis RiverKings MEMPHIS 6-4

The Eagles struck early in the first period when center Brad Patterson netted the first goal of the game (1:17) from defenseman Brent Thompson and left winger Mike McGhan. The RiverKings answered back thirty four seconds later (1:51) when defenseman Jeremy Goetzinger scored from right winger Brent Ozarowski. Memphis took advantage of a power play 13:51 into the period when forward Brian Tucker netted a goal from defenseman Derek Landmesser and center Jay Neal. The period ended with a 2-1 RiverKings lead.

The RiverKings assault accelerated in the second period. Only forty seven seconds into the period the RiverKings defeseman David Turon scored from Neal and right winger Brad Mueller. Memphis' rampage continued when defenseman Stephen Margeson charged Eagles netminder Ryan Bach and netted a goal from forward Jeremy Cornish and Ozarowski. The RiverKings struck one more time before the period ended (14:31) when left winger Jonathan Gagnon scored from Tucker. The period ended with a 5-2 Memphis lead.

The Eagles began the third period eager to score, and that's exactly what left winger Karlis Zirnis did only eighteen seconds into the period when he scored from McGhan and Patterson. The RiverKings answered when Tucker netted his second goal of the night on a power play from Landmesser and Gagnon. Colorado answered back on a power play 9:04 into the period when left winger Ryan Tobler netted a magnificent pass from right winger Greg Pankewicz and center Riley Nelson. Still fighting, the Eagles scored again (11:03) when Nelson netted a goal from Pankewicz and Tobler. Despite the efforts of the Eagles top line, the game ended with a disappointing 6-4 Memphis victory.

Eagles goaltender Ryan Bach saved 14 of 20 shots on goal. The Eagles out-shot the Memphis RiverKings 39 to 20.

November 28 – Colorado Eagles vs Memphis RiverKings EAGLES 5-2

The first period was scoreless, but full of penalties, eight in all. The Eagles had four minors and one major in the period, while the RiverKings had two minors and one major. The period ended with a at an even 0-0.

The second period remained scoreless until the RiverKings struck, twice. RiverKings center Alexandre Mathieu netted a power play goal 8:32 into the period from defensemen Juraj Durco and David Turon. Only fifty four seconds later, Memphis sruck again when right winger Brent Ozarowski scored an unassisted goal. The Eagles didn't take long to strike back. Eagles defenseman Brad Williamson netted a power play goal (13:19) from defenseman Scott Swansnon and right winger Greg Pankewicz. Twenty seven seconds later the Eagles took advantage of another power play when left winger Ryan Tobler scored from center Riley Nelson and Pankewicz. The period ended even again, at 2-2.

The Eagles dominated in the third period. Two minutes five seconds into the period Tobler netted the game winning goal and his second power play goal from Pankewicz and Swanson. The Eagles took full advantage of an empty RiverKings net at the end of the period when left winger Mike McGhan netted an unassisted goal (18:59) and when Pankewcz scored thirty nine seconds later (19:38) from Tobler and Swanson. The Eagles were victorious over the RiverKings, 5-2.

Eagles goaltender Ryan Bach saved 25 of 27 shots on goal. The Eagles out-shot the Memphis RiverKings 37 to 27. The Colorado Eagles are now 13-5-1 on the season with 27 points. The Eagles are first in the Northwest Division and are third in the league overall with the Amarillo Gorillas.

COACH'S SHOW Due to scheduling conflicts, there will be NO Coach's show tonight, December 1. The show will resume next Monday, December 8 at 5:00 p.m. at Benningan's in Fort Collins.

WEEK AHEAD

Wed. Dec. 1 7:05 p.m. vs New Mexico Scorpions @ the Budweiser Events Center

Notes: The Colorado Eagles have faced the Scorpions three times this season; October 31 in New Mexico the Eagles lost to the Scorpions, 5-3; November 7 at the Budweiser Events Center the Eagles thrashed the Scorpions, 8-2; November 14 at the Budweiser Events Center the Eagles were victorious again against the Scorpions, 6-3. The Scorpions are currently in last place with Wichita in the Northwest division with 17 points.

Fri. Dec. 5 6:05 p.m. (MST) @ Corpus Christi

Notes: This will be the first time the Eagles face the Ice Rays. Corpus Christi is currently in last place in the Southeast Division with 19 points.

Sat. Dec. 6 6:30 p.m. (MST) @ Laredo

Notes: This will be the first time the Eagles face the Bucks. Laredo is currently first in the Southeast Division and in the league with 31 points.

Sun. Dec. 7 5:05 p.m. (MST) @ Rio Grande

Notes: This will be the first time the Eagles face the Killer Bees (the other 2003-04 CHL expansion team). Rio Grande is currently second in the Southeast Division with the Austin Ice Bats with 20 points.

UPCOMING COMMUNITY EVENTS: 12/01 Respite Care: The Colorado Eagles will visit Respite Care Monday, December 1 at 3:30 p.m. for a tree trimming party.

OTHER COMMUNITY EVENTS:

12/02-3 LADIES NIGHT – Colorado Eagles team will provide HOCKEY 101 for 150 women Tuesday night at American Eagle Distributing over dinner (catered by Johnny Carinos). The women who attend ladies night December 2 will then go to the New Mexico game Wednesday, December 3 to apply what they have learned.
