New Mexico Scorpions News Release

ALBUQUERQUE – The Central Hockey League announced earlier today that New Mexico Scorpions forward Mike Oliveira has been named the Bauer/Nike CHL Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Nov. 30.

Oliveira was a key part of the Scorpions' recent three-game winning streak and stretch of five victories in six games by totaling five goals and eight points in just three games. Included in that performance was his first career hat trick in last Wednesday's 4-3 overtime win over Tulsa, capped when he scored the game-winning goal in overtime.

"Mike has been a key player for this team since he joined us," said Scorpions Head Coach/Assistant General Manager Bill McDonald. "He is extremely talented offensively, and it's great to see him use those talents on the ice. Hopefully he can keep it up with the tough schedule we face this week."

The 6-foot, 195-pound native of West Lorne, Ontario currently leads the Scorpions with 11 goals and is second with 22 points in just 11 games. The fifth-year pro also leads the team with four power play goals and has scored two game-winning goals, both in overtime.

The Scorpions return to action tomorrow, Tuesday, Dec. 2 when the two-time defending champion Memphis RiverKings make their first-ever visit to Tingley Coliseum. Faceoff is 7:05 p.m. The game can be heard on 1050 KTBL-AM beginning at 6:50 p.m. Tickets for any Scorpions regular season home game can be purchased at the Scorpions Team Store at the Far North Shopping Center, 6300 San Mateo NE, Suite F-1, or at any TicketMaster outlet, including through charge-by-phone at 505-883-7800 or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
