The Charlotte Knights, in conjunction with the Chicago White Sox, announced three roster moves ahead of the team's opener against the Durham Bulls on Tuesday, September 14.
C Zack Collins was recalled by the Chicago White Sox today. Collins, 26, appeared in nine games with the Knights since being optioned to the team on August 27. He hit .143 (5-for-35) with five runs scored, three home runs and five RBIs with Charlotte. With the White Sox this season, Collins has appeared in 72 games and is hitting .202 (36-for-178) with 23 runs scored, 11 doubles, four home runs and 24 RBIs. Drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the first round (10th overall) of the June 2016 First-Year Player Draft, Collins entered the 2021 season ranked as the number 27 prospect in Chicago's system by Baseball America. He hit .282 (83-for-294) with 19 home runs and 74 RBIs with the Knights in 2019 (88 games).
C Seby Zavala was optioned to Charlotte from the Chicago White Sox today. Zavala, 28, appeared in 37 games with the White Sox since his promotion to the team from Charlotte on July 6. He hit .183 (17-for-93) with 15 runs scored, three doubles, five home runs and 15 RBIs with Chicago this season. Earlier this year on July 31 against Cleveland, Zavala became the first player in major-league history to hit his first three home runs in the same game. With the Knights, Zavala is hitting .178 (21-for-118) with 15 runs scored, four doubles, five home runs and 15 RBIs in 33 games. Baseball America tabbed him as the Best Defensive Catcher in the organization in each of the past two years (2020 and 2021).
INF Danny Mendick was optioned to Charlotte from the Chicago White Sox today. With the Knights this season (11 games), Mendick is hitting .250 (10-for-40) with eight runs scored, two home runs, five RBIs and one stolen base. He hit a walk-off, three-run home run in game two of a doubleheader on Saturday, August 28 to lead the Knights to a 5-4 win over the Durham Bulls. In 71 games with the White Sox this season, Mendick hit .220 (36-for-164) with 14 runs scored, five doubles, two home runs and 20 RBIs.
