July 16, 2015 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Lancaster Stormers News Release
Zach Collier displayed in one night why he was a first round draft choice of the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Barnstormers center fielder went 4-for-4, homered, stole two bases and made two splendid plays in the outfield, leading Lancaster to an 8-1 victory over the Long Island Ducks in the finale of a four-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
His chance for a fifth hit went by the boards in the eighth inning as he picked up a walk from reliever Matt Soren.
Lance Zawadzki, the top supporting actor in the cast, gave the Barnstormers a 1-0 lead in the second inning with a solo homer onto the picnic deck off Bobby Blevins (1-1). In the third, Anderson Feliz reached second when center fielder Delta Cleary, Jr. dropped his liner to center, and Collier singled him to third. With one out and a 3-2 count on Kevin Rivers, Collier broke for second. Rivers swung and missed, catcher Dan Coury fired through, and Feliz sprinted home with Lancaster's second run.
The Barnstormers struck again in the fourth as Kent Matthes doubled to left and scored on a two-out single to right by Keith Castillo. Following a Steve McQuail homer that provided the Ducks with their only run of the night, Collier got the club underway again in the fifth with a single jerked into right field. He scored quickly on Brian Cavazos-Galvez' double to right center, but the Barnstormers were unable to add anything else in the inning.
In the sixth, Zawadzki and Luke Hughes opened with singles, and Feliz produced a run with a sac fly into the left field corner. Collier cleaned up with his second homer as a Barnstormer, a drive off the top of the right field tents.
Zawadzki, Feliz and Collier stifled the Ducks offense. Feliz smoothly started double plays behind Ray Hanson (1-0) in the second and third. In the fifth, Zawadzki charged a bouncer past the mound by Coury and made a blind backhanded flip to Hughes, who then completed the double play. Collier ended the inning racing into the right center field alley to take extra bases away from Cleary.
Collier also dove forward to rob Prentice Redman of a single in the seventh inning.
Hanson, in his Atlantic League debut, went five innings and allowed six hits and hit a batter. Pete Andrelczyk worked the next two innings, striking out three. Zach Jackson pitched the eighth, and Marcus Waldan closed out the game in the ninth.
The York Revolution heads to Clipper Magazine Stadium for a three-game weekend series. Lancaster will send Bryan Woodall (2-4) to the hill against lefty Frank Gailey (1-0). Fireworks will follow the game. Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; rumba1390.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app, beginning at 6:45.
NOTES: Collier became only the third Barnstormer this season with four hits in a game...Andrelczyk struck out a batter for the 19th straight appearance...Zawadzki's homer was his fourth since coming off the disabled list on July 5...The win was the Barrnstormers' 100th against the Ducks in 11 seasons...Lancaster stole five bases, one shy of the club high this season.
