Revs Dominate in All Facets of Game En Route to Series Split
July 16, 2015 - Atlantic League (AtL)
York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution turned in a complete game in a Thursday morning matinee contest as Rommie Lewis provided a dominant start, Bryan Pounds smashed a solo homer and James Simmons robbed a potential three-run shot, all in a 5-1 victory to salvage a series split against Sugar Land. With the crowd full of excited camp kids who came to see a ballgame, the Revs did not disappoint, providing many highlight reel plays in the win.
Making the start on short rest, Lewis (6-7) turned in 6.1 innings, striking out seven and only allowing four hits, one walk, and one unearned run in his stellar performance.
Mikey Reynolds and Wilson Valdez got the offense started in the fifth off of Skeeters right-hander Sean Gallagher (1-8), each driving in runs on a pair of fielder's choices to put the Revs up 2-0. The rally was set up after Andres Perez worked a leadoff walk and Simmons ripped a one-out double into the left field corner to put two runners in scoring position.
Pounds came up to bat in the sixth looking to extend the lead and did just that, blasting his fourth homer of the year and second in as many days to give the Revs a 3-0 lead.
Patrick Palmeiro got the Skeeters on the board in the seventh, hitting a sac fly to deep left-center for an unearned run after a passed ball advanced runners to second and third. Simmons made possibly the defensive play of the year, however, ranging a long way to rob what could have been a three-run home run, keeping the lead intact.
The Revs added on to the scoring total in a historic eighth inning. Valdez led off with a bloop double to left, and with two outs, Pounds was intentionally put on first. With runners on the move, Nick Ferdinand lined a single into left to score a run. That brought up Perez, who promptly singled to right for an RBI, tying James Shanks for first place on the franchise's all time hits leaderboard at 383. He will try for the record on Friday night in Lancaster.
Newly signed left hander Ron Schreurs had quite the debut in the ninth, needing only 12 pitches to strike out the side, securing the victory.
Ty'Relle Harris tossed a scoreless eighth out of the York bullpen, working past a leadoff double by Renny Osuna. Tony Pena also logged two-thirds of an inning out of the Revs bullpen, recording the final two outs in the seventh.
The Revs look to make it three in-a-row on Friday against the Barnstormers in Lancaster, as York lefty Frank Gailey (1-1, 0.55) takes on Lancaster right-hander Bryan Woodall (2-4, 3.91) at Clipper Magazine Stadium with first pitch at 7 p.m. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK mobile apps beginning at 6:40 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
Notes: The Revs conclude the season series with Sugar Land, having gone 6-14 in the 20 meetings but winning the final two. Perez now has 600 total bases in a Revs uniform, five shy of matching Scott Grimes' club record. Ferdinand's RBI in the eighth inning marked his seventh RBI in the last five games. Lewis' seven strikeouts tied a season-high, also notched in a weekday morning game in Camden on May 28.
