Colella OT Goal Sends Lancers Past Stars, 6-5

LINCOLN, NE - The Omaha Lancers notched their first win of the regular season against the Lincoln Stars on Friday night at the Ice Box by a final over-time score of 6-5.

In the first period, Jan Kern (5:11) scored on Wouter Peeters to get the Lancers on the board. Eleven-seconds later, the Stars answered back when Zach Dubinsky (5:22) netted the puck past Lance Leonard. The Stars scored again, this time on the power-play when Steven Agrogianis (14:22) received the puck on the back door and shot the puck passed Leonard. With the power-play goal, the Stars held the 2-1 lead going into the first intermission.

The Stars gained a two-goal lead opening up the second period when Steven Agrogianis (6:48) got his second goal on the night. The Lancers then put their foot on the gas and scored 3 goals in under two minutes. Brian Silver (8:16) stole the puck at the redline, broke past the blue line for a partial breakaway and ripped the puck past Peeters. While on the power play, Tyler Carpenter (9:49) cashed in a rebound shot from the point to get the Lancers in front of the Stars 3-2. Then, Jan Kern worked the puck to Jerry Harding (10:13) who took the puck across the net mouth the waited out Peeters to sneak it in the net. The Stars fought back to even the score with a goal from Ben Badalamenti (13:55). Just two minutes later, Logan Will (15:23) outbattled the Stars in front of Peeters net to send the puck into the net. The Lancers held on to a one-goal lead heading into the third period.

The Lancers replaced Leonard with Vinnie Purpura to finish out the game. Nearing the end of the period, Declan Carlile (4:01) erupted the Ice Box to even the game 5-5 to force overtime.

In the extra frame, Michael Colella (0:20) broke past the Stars defense to snipe the puck top shelf on Peeters to give the Lancers the 6-5 win. Friday was Colella's first start as an Omaha Lancers.

The Lancers improve to 1-2-0-0 with 2 points. Lance Leonard stopped 19 of 24 shots and Vinnie Purpura stopped 7 of the 8 shots he faced.
