SPOKANE, Wash. - Coeur d'Alene Casino will make a $1,890 donation to the Northern Idaho Children's Advocacy Center prior to the Spokane Chiefs WHL Playoff game versus the Everett Silvertips on Friday, April 3 as a part of the Coeur d'Alene Casino Saves Program. The total represents the number of saves Chiefs' goaltenders Garett Hughson and Tyson Verhelst made during the regular season.

"Coeur d'Alene Casino has been a major provider of donations in the past," Bernie LaSarte, member of the Northern Idaho Children's Advocacy Center Advisory Board, said.

"These dollars will go towards paying salaries for forensic interviewers, forensic scientists, exams and office operations," she said.

"Adults can speak for themselves but children depend on someone else to watch over them and advocate for them because they don't have a voice. We also provide support for families that have children involved in sexual assault," LaSarte said about the Northern Idaho Children's Advocacy importance in the community.

In 53 games, the 19-year-old Hughson stopped 1,281 shots while Verhelst, a 17-year-old rookie, made 609 saves in 26 appearances. It is the fourth season in a row that Coeur d'Alene Casino has selected a local charity to raise funds and awareness for through the Saves Program.

The northern Idaho Children's Advocacy Center opened in September, 2012 and is a facility where children who are being evaluated for suspected abuse are interviewed and examined in a safe and child-friendly environment.
