Hartford Yard Goats News Release
Binghamton, NY - Yard Goats infielder Coco Montes belted his league leading 27th double but Rumble Ponies starter Jose Butto was terrific in six scoreless innings as Binghamton defeated Hartford 4-1 on Saturday night at Mirabito Stadium in Binghamton, New York. Montes led off the fourth inning of a scoreless game with the two-base hit, which tied him for 4th place in single-season Yard Goats history with Rockies' star Ryan McMahon (2016). Butto retired 18 of 21 batters faced and allowed just two hits while recording eight strikeouts and earned the win. Butto and reliever Tommy Wilson combined to retire 14 straight batters from the fourth through eighth innings.
The game was scoreless over the first four innings with Rumble Ponies starter Jose Butto and Yard Goats starter David Hill battling in a pitcher duel. Binghamton scored three runs in the fifth inning to take a 3-0 lead on three hits, an error, and sacrifice fly. Quinn Brody's deep fly ball scored Carlos Rincon for the first run of the game. Edgardo Fermin followed with a base-clearing two-run double, scoring Matt Winaker and Luis Carpio to make it 3-0 Rumble Ponies.
The Rumble Ponies took a 4-0 lead as Carlos Rincon cranked a solo homer over the left field fence in the sixth inning. The outfielder's sixth home run of the season came off David Hill in his final inning of work.
Meanwhile, Butto was dominant in six innings and retired the side in order in four of the six innings. Willie Abreu had a single in the second inning, while extending his hitting-streak to six games, and Montes had the double to start the fourth inning. Tommy Wilson came out of the bullpen and retired all six batters faced. The Yard Goats got their only run in the ninth inning on a grounder scoring Jose Gomes off reliever Justin Dillon.
