Akron RubberDucks News Release
After the Reading Fightin Phils used a five-run fifth inning to earn their first win of the series, 7-4, in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader, RubberDucks left-hander Tanner Tully pitched six scoreless innings, and center fielder Steven Kwan homered and made a spectacular catch to preserve the lead in a 1-0 Akron win and twin bill split at FirstEnergy Stadium.
Turning Point
Akron had a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning of Game 1, when Reading rallied to tie the game on shortstop Bryson Stott's RBI single. Fightin Phils third baseman Matt Kroon hit a go-ahead, two-run double, and first baseman Luke Miller added a two-run infield single for a 7-3 Reading lead. In the third inning of Game 2, Kwan hit a solo home run off right-hander Hans Crouse, and in the bottom of the inning, he caught Stott's fly ball to end the inning, stranding the tying and go-ahead runs.
Mound Presence
In Game 1, right-hander Peyton Battenfield allowed a two-run homer to left fielder Josh Stephen but nothing more in his four-inning start. Enright began with a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning but yielded five runs - four earned - on four hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning. Right-hander Thomas Ponticelli went the last 1 1/3 innings. In Game 2, Tully allowed three hits and one walk, but he induced three double plays in six innings. Right-hander Nick Mikolajchak worked around a one-out double in a scoreless seventh inning for his seventh save and first since June 30.
Duck Tales
Trailing 2-0 in the fifth inning of Game 1, Akron rallied with a two-run homer by first baseman Marcos González and an RBI single by second baseman Andruw Monasterio to take a 3-2 lead against Reading right-hander Francisco Morales.
