Portland Winterhawks News Release

Portland, OR - Winter Hawk defenseman Braydon Coburn was named the Greyhound WHL Player of the Week for his four-goal effort in Portland's 7-4 win over the Seattle Thunderbirds on Friday night. Coburn, became just the seventh defenseman in WHL history to tally four goals in a game, the last to do so was another Winter Hawk, Richie Regehr in 2002.

Braydon Coburn tied a WHL regular season single game record by recording four goals in a single game, a feat only six other defenseman have done in league history. The last do so was former teammate, Richie Regehr, who logged four goals in a 10-2 win over the Prince George Cougars on November 27, 2002. Nathan Paetsch (Moose Jaw, 2002), Justin Kurtz (Brandon, 1997), Deron Quint (Seattle, 1995), Sergei Klimentiev (Medicine Hat, 1995), and Ron Greschner (New Westminster, 1972) were the other five WHL defensemen to record four goals in a single game.

On Friday, February 4th, Coburn scored four goals including three power-play goals in a 7-4 win against the Thunderbirds in Seattle. Coburn, a 19-year-old from Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, was drafted 8th overall by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. With the historic game, Coburn nearly doubled his seasonal goal total. Coburn now has 10 goals and 23 assists in 42 games this season.

Honorable mention goes to Brett Palin of the Kelowna Rockets.
