Kamloops Blazers News Release

KAMLOOPS, BC - The Kamloops Blazers Hockey Club is introducing a new program to honour contributions made by special individuals to the overall success of the Kamloops Blazer franchise. "Blazer Legends" will be acknowledged by the hockey club through banners that will hang in Sport Mart Place. One banner will recognize those inducted in the "Builders" category and another will honour those in the "Players" category.

"We are very excited about this program," says the head of the Blazers' Alumni Committee Ron Maguire. "This is something that we feel is long overdue. We, as an organization, need to recognize the individuals who have made huge contributions to the overall success of the franchise."

From this point forward, all nominations must be made in writing to the Kamloops Blazers Alumni Committee and must include detailed achievements of the nominee. The Alumni Committee, in conjunction with local media representatives, will then make recommendations to the Blazers' Board of Directors who will have final determination of those selected for recognition.

Builders, such as coaches, scouts, executive, media, and volunteers, will be chosen by their ability in their particular role, sportsmanship, contribution to the organization during and after their Blazer career, and strength of character during and after their Blazer career. They may be active or inactive.

Players will be selected based on their playing ability, sportsmanship, their contribution to the organization during and after their Blazer career, and strength of character during and after their Blazer career. They must have played a minimum of 30 games in each of at least 2 seasons and may not be honoured earlier than 3 years after their Blazer career has ended. Accomplishments after graduation may be considered.

To start this program, the Alumni Committee has selected six builders and eight players who will be recognized in pre-game ceremonies prior to the end of the season.

The first six "Builders" will be honoured prior to the Saturday, February 19th game against the Vancouver Giants. Those being inducted are former General Manager Bob Brown, former head coaches Ken Hitchcock, Tom Renney, and Don Hay, former scout Ed Ferner, and long-time billet coordinator Doris Rubel.

The eight "Players" to be recognized prior to the Wednesday, March 8th game against the Tri-City Americans are: Shane Doan, Ryan Huska, Jarome Iginla, Tyson Nash, Scott Niedermayer, Daryl Reaugh, Darryl Sydor, and Darcy Tucker.

All inductees, or a representative, are expected to be on hand for the ceremonies.
