Reading Fightin Phils News Release
The R-Phils got a solid start from RHP Tyler Cloyd, who allowed just one run over 6.2 innings pitched, and the club went on to beat the Akron Aeros 6-1 in the finale of their four-game series from Akron, OH. Cloyd improved to 6-3 with a 2.78 ERA on the season.
Offensively for Reading, Ozzie Chavez led the way with three hits and three RBIs, and the squad belted out 11 hits on their way to a four-game series split with the Aeros. The win proved to be important for the R-Phils, as both New Britain and New Hampshire won. Reading kept their spot in third place -- just a half-game out of the final playoff spot.
New Britain shut out Richmond on Thursday by a score of 8-0 -- keeping their half-game lead over Reading for the final playoff spot. New Britain will now host the Trenton Thunder in five games over four days. The two teams are set to play a doubleheader on Saturday.
First-place New Hampshire beat Trenton last night 2-0 and kept their spot atop the Eastern League Eastern Division. They enter play on Friday ahead of second-place New Britain by 3.5 games, and ahead of third-place Reading by 4.0 games.
Eligible Club The top two clubs in each Division shall be eligible to compete in the Eastern League playoffs. Playoff eligibility is determined by won loss record of each team.
