Indianapolis Indians News Release
COLUMBUS, OHIO - Jose Osuna homered and drove in six runs for the Indianapolis Indians, but the Columbus Clippers scored eight in the bottom of the fifth to top the Tribe on Saturday night, 15-9. The top two clubs of the International League's West Division have split the first two games of the series.
Columbus (27-19) used the longball to take an early lead in the bottom of the first. With one run already in, Trayce Thompson clubbed a two-run homer to center field that pushed the Clippers out to a 3-0 advantage.
Indianapolis (26-17) used back-to-back home runs to trim the deficit to one run in the second. Will Craig led off with a towering blast for his 13th home run of the season. Kevin Kramer followed and smashed a homer atop the right-field awning for his fifth of the campaign.
The Indians took a brief lead with a four-run fifth inning. Ke'Bryan Hayes blooped a single to shallow right field to tie the game with two outs in the frame. Osuna followed with a three-run home run to left field that gave Indy a 6-3 lead.
The advantage was short-lived, and Columbus plated eight runs in the bottom half. The Clippers slowly plated the first four runs, as they used three walks and three hits to regain the lead. Up 7-6, the lead was salted when Eric Stamets belted a grand slam to left field.
Columbus would add four more runs and saw their gap swell to nine before Indy rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth. Osuna came up with the bases loaded and two outs, and then cleared them with a double. The effort gave him six runs batted in for the night which matched a career high.
The four-game series continues Sunday afternoon, first pitch is set for 2:05 p.m. in Ohio. Mitch Keller (5-0, 3.45) is scheduled to put his unbeaten record on the line for Indianapolis. The team returns home to Victory Field on Tuesday, May 28 to open a six-game homestand.
