Clippers Obliterate Bats in Series Opener

May 21, 2016 - International League (IL1)
Columbus Clippers News Release

The Clippers (25-16) saw two home runs from Jesus Aguilar, a three-run bomb from Guillermo Quiroz and a solo shot from Erik Gonzalez en route to a 12-2 win over Louisville (21-20) at Slugger Field on Friday night in front of 7,155 less than happy Bats fans.

Columbus hopped all over Bats starting pitcher Jon Moscot (0-2), who was charged with nine earned runs on eleven hits in four innings. He walked a pair of batters and struck out four.

Aguilar ended his night 3-for-5 with his two solo homers and three RBI. The Clippers also saw excellent performances from Gonzalez, who was 2-for-3 with three RBI and Yandy Diaz, who went 4-for-5 with three RBI as well.

The 11 runs produced by the Clippers was more than they had achieved in their four game set with Indianapolis to begin their seven-game road trip, which will conclude on Sunday.

Right-hander Will Roberts (4-1) fired seven innings of baseball for Columbus, giving up two earned runs on nine hits as he walked one and he punched out three.

The Clippers and Bats will play round two of their three game series tomorrow night with the first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m. Jarrett Grube (0-1, 3.54 ERA) is set to go for Columbus and he will square off with righty Daniel Wright (1-0, 1.29 ERA) for Louisville.
