LOUISVILLE, Ky- In extra innings at Louisville Slugger Field, the Louisville Bats walked off winners against the Columbus Clippers, 2-0. The Bats pitchers shutdown the Clippers, keeping Columbus off the scoreboard after allowing 21 runs the previous two nights combined.
In the 11th inning, the Bats put an end to the the scoreless duel with a walk-off home run by third baseman Seth Mejias-Brean. The two-run blast followed a one-out walk to first baseman Ray Chang. The Bats were victorious, 2-0.
The home run marks the Bats second home run of the year at Louisville Slugger Field. The Bats move to 4-0 in extra innings.
After 10 innings, neither squad could solve the opposition's pitchers. Short stop Jose Peraza recorded 11 assists for Louisville, and left fielder Kyle Waldrop doubled twice and walked, highlighting the night for the Bats.
Right handed pitcher Chad Rogers (2-1, 2.05) toed the rubber for a spot start this evening. He finished with a no decision after pitching four innings of shutout baseball. He allowed five hits, two walks, and collected three strikeouts on 75 pitches, 47 for strikes. Right handed pitcher Wandy Peralta (1-0, 1.69) got his first win of the year.
The Clippers' starter, right handed pitcher Jarrett Grube (0-1, 2.83), delivered seven innings of shutout baseball, allowing six hits and striking out nine. Right handed pitcher Ben Heller (0-1, 27.00) was hit with the loss.
The Bats will attempt to claim the series tomorrow afternoon against Columbus. Right handed pitcher Robert Stephenson (3-2, 2.80) will go for Louisville and left handed pitcher Ross Detwiler (0-2, 4.00) will get the ball for Columbus. First pitch at Louisville Slugger Field is set for 2:05 pm. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
