Claws Fall in Hickory 6-3 on Friday Night

HICKORY, NC - Kumar Rocker struck out eight over six scoreless innings as Hickory topped the BlueClaws 6-3 on Friday night at LP Frans Stadium.

The loss drops the BlueClaws to 10-11 while Hickory improves to 12-11 on the season. The teams have split the first four games of their six game series.

The Crawdads got on the board in the second inning when Alejandro Osuna scored on an error from BlueClaws catcher Andrick Nava.

Jersey Shore starter Jordan Fowler lasted into the fifth inning but came out of the game with two outs and two men on base. Alex Garbrick came in and was greeted by Max Acosta, who hit a three run home run to put the Crawdads ahead 4-0.

After Rocker (2-1) came out after six innings, over which he allowed just one hit, the BlueClaws got back in the game with three runs in the eighth inning. Two scored on a single by Marcus Lee Sang. Rixon Wingrove then drove in a run on a groundout to cut the lead to 4-3.

Hickory added two in the bottom of the eighth off Jordi Martinez on one infield single from Geisel Cepeda that included a throwing error from infielder Wilfredo Flores.

Marcus Lee Sang went 3-3 with a walk for the BlueClaws.

Chase Antle threw a scoreless sixth and Albertus Barber threw a scoreless seventh for the BlueClaws.

Fowler (1-1) took the loss, allowing three runs, two earned, in 4.2 innings. Michael Brewer struck out the side in a scoreless ninth to earn his third save of the season.

The teams continue their series on Saturday night at 5:05 pm. LHP Rafael Marcano starts for Jersey Shore.
