Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Oklahoma City, Okla. - The Oklahoma City RedHawks (62-45) got a much needed pitching performance and some timely hitting to beat the Omaha Storm Chasers (63-45) 6-2 in front of 9,623 on Saturday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
Jose Cisnero, making his RedHawks and Triple-A debut, pitched a gem going seven innings and giving up one run. Cisnero (1-0) gave up six hits and two walks, but he was able to keep himself out of trouble all night.
Oklahoma City started the scoring in the bottom of the first on an RBI-double by first baseman Mike Hessman. Designated hitter Brett Wallace extended the lead with a mammoth home run to center to make it 4-0 RedHawks. Wallace's 16th home run of the year was his second in his last three games.
The lone run Omaha was able to muster off Cisnero came on a home run by centerfielder Wil Myers in the top of the fourth inning. Myers' 17th home run of the year landed in the left field bleachers to make it 4-1 Oklahoma City.
The RedHawks added to their lead in the fifth on a two-run double by third baseman Matt Dominguez making it 6-1.
Omaha starter Ryan Verdugo (7-3) struggled all night after coming in on a hot streak. Verdugo gave up six runs on six hits and two walks in five innings.
Enerio Del Rosario relieved Cisnero to start the eighth inning and the Storm Chasers tried to take advantage of Cisnero's absence. A walk to Wil Myers and a double by shortstop Tony Abreu had runners on second and third with two outs. Del Rosario was able to work out of the jam by getting rightfielder David Lough to line out to short to end the inning.
The Storm Chasers bullpen kept the RedHawks offense in check. Jeremy Jeffress, Brandon Sisk and Vin Mazzaro combined to pitch three scoreless innings giving up one hit and striking out five.
Jose Valdez replaced Del Rosario to start the ninth. After striking out Max Ramirez, Adam Moore doubled and Derrick Robinson had an infield single to put runners on the corners with one out. Third baseman Irving Falu singled to right, allowing Moore to score and cut the lead to 6-2. Valdez struck out second baseman Johnny Giavotella looking and Myers swinging to end the game.
