Tucson Padres News Release

The Tacoma Rainiers didn't score until they had two outs and two strikes in the ninth inning Friday, when Luis Rodriguez hit a two-run home over the right field wall to beat the Tucson Padres, 2-1. Tucson starter Bear Bay pitched 6.1 scoreless innings while his counterpart, former Padres minor league pitcher Steve Garrison, pitched eight innings, only allowing one run.

Neither team scored until the eighth inning Friday, when Beamer Weems hit a solo home run, his third homer of the season and second against Tacoma. Tucson closer Erik Hamren recorded two quick outs in the bottom of the ninth before walking Alex Liddi. When Rodriguez hit the walk-off home run, it ended a stretch of 20 consecutive scoreless innings by Tucson pitchers.

The Padres split the four game series in Tacoma and finished the road trip 5-3. All four games at Cheney Stadium were decided by one run.
