Wausau, WIS - The Wisconsin Woodchucks (7-8) scored eight runs in the second through fourth innings - aided by four Kalamazoo Growlers (11-5) errors - but squandered a 9-5 ninth inning loss to fall, 12-10, at Athletic Park in Wausau.

A Kalamazoo grand slam tied it at nine runs apiece with still nobody out. The Growlers added three more to lead 12-9.

After four innings, the 'Chucks had lead, 8-1.

Mac Caples (Virginia Tech) broke out of his slump with a single and a double in his first two at-bats, coming around to score each time. His college teammate Stevie Mangrum (Virginia Tech) added a single and a two-RBI double with a pair of runs himself.

Ruben Cardenas (Cal State-Fullerton) made his debut for the Woodchucks as a mid-game substitute and homered - a solo shot to left - to lead off the ninth in only his second at-bat.

Connor Hock (Notre Dame) threw four innings in his third start and allowed only one run.

Gordon Cardenas (Auburn) took the loss for the 'Chucks in relief.

The loss moves the 'Chucks to 3.5 games back of first place in the Northwoods League's South Division. They've now lost all four games to Kalamazoo this season. The Growlers are the only team to have swept the 'Chucks, and they've already done it twice - once in Kalamazoo and now once in Wausau.

The Woodchucks return to action at Athletic Park tomorrow (Thursday, June 16) to take onthe defending champion Kenosha Kingfish in the first of a two-game series, and the fifth of a six-game homestand. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm. Order your tickets today by calling 715.845.5055 or going online to woodchucks.com.
