Wausau Woodchucks News Release

Wausau, WIS - The Wisconsin Woodchucks took their third straight game - this one a 14-1 triumph over Thunder Bay - to improve to 3-0 at home on the young season.

The 'Chucks got it going with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Chad Fleischman (Lamar) highlighted the frame with an RBI double. Mac Caples (Virginia Tech) and Connor Heady (Kentucky) scored the runs. Heady had plenty more in store.

Wisconsin broke the game open in the third inning with nine runs, including three on Heady's three-run homer over the left field wall. Heady had two hits in the inning and scored two runs. He finished 3-for-4 with two walks, and scored three runs total while driving in four. Heady added a stolen base as well.

Scott Parker (San Francisco) threw a sparkling seven innings for the win, allowing only one run on four hits with four strikeouts, but he was overshadowed by the Woodchucks' offense. He improves to 2-0 on the year.

Caples reach base five times, scoring one run and driving in another. Fleischman finished with three hits - including two doubles - and drove in a pair.

Kevin Bolder (St. Cloud State) struck out five in two scoreless innings of relief work.

The 'Chucks improve to 4-2 this season and take over second place in the South Division, trailing only 6-1 Madison. Before heading out on a four-game road trip to Battle Creek and Kalamazoo, the Woodchucks are back in action tomorrow evening at Athletic Park against Thunder Bay. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35.
