Mallards Fall for First Time in 2016

June 6, 2016 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Madison Mallards News Release

Madison, WI - In a game that took approximately three and a half hours to complete, the Mallards win streak to open the season finally came to an end, as the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters defeated Madison 13-5. The Rafters set a franchise record for hits in the process, as they hit safely 22 times in the contest.

Though they were able to threaten in the middle innings, the Mallards were never able to strike. After leaving the bases loaded with no outs in the 5th, Madison entered the 6th down three runs. The Rafters kept piling on the runs in the later innings; however, the bullpen couldn't keep Madison in the game.

Justin Watts (Northern Kentucky) takes the loss in this one, as the right-hander struggled from the get-go. He allowed six earned while only recording a single out.

The Mallards did not look quite as comfortable at the plate as they have in previous games. Although they scored five runs in the game, the Mallards struck out a season-high ten times and left 11 runners on base.

Zach Jarrett (UNC-Charlotte) was the bright spot for the Mallards, as he accounted for three of the team's eight hits as well as scoring a run and knocking one in.

The Mallards will return to the Duck Pond tomorrow, June 7th, to take on the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. The game will be sponsored by the Delton Grand Wisconsin Dells, where 1,000 Dells coupon books and hotel stay giveaways will be handed out. Chris Clark, professional stunt rider, will also be making an appearance, presented by Schwinn. Tomorrow is also Summerween at the Duck Pond, and will feature postgame trick-or-treating. Kids 12 & under in costume will receive a free standing room only ticket. Tickets are available for purchase by visiting MallardsBaseball.com, calling the Mallards ticket office at 608-246-4277, or stopping in the ticket office at 2920 N Sherman Ave.
