LOVES PARK, Ill. - In a wild finish, the winning pitcher scored the winning run on a wild pitch on Monday at Rivets Stadium.
The Rockford Rivets got the first walkoff win in franchise history as they beat the Lakeshore Chinooks, 4-3, in extra innings.
Cory Wright (1-0) earned the win for the Rivets after pitching three scoreless innings of relief. Wright, who had started the game as the left fielder, scored the winning run on a wild pitch by Brandon Parr (0-1) in the bottom of the 13th.
The Rivets tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth, when Cade Bunnell hit a two-RBI single to left field.
In the 13th, the Rivets loaded the bases with one out on a single by Neal Tyrell, a double by Wright and a walk by Cade Bunnell. After Parr got Joe Kubera to ground to a drawn-in infield for a forceout at the plate, his first pitch to Braden Williams escaped Lakeshore catcher Hayden Senger and brought home Wright.
The Rivets travel to Lakeshore 11:35 a.m. Tuesday for the finale of the two-game series. Broadcasts and live streams can be found at NorthwoodsLeague.com.
Rockford's next home game is 6:35 p.m. Wednesday, when they host the Kenosha Kingfish.
