Kalamazoo, Mich. - The Kalamazoo Growlers defeated the Kenosha Kingfish at Homer Stryker field tonight 5-4.

The game was a back and forth affair. The Kingfish scored one run in the top of the second off a Marshall Gilbert groundout which brought home Nick Kanavas. Kalamazoo responded with two runs, however, in the bottom of the frame. The same pattern followed in the 7th, and Kalamazoo had a 4-2 lead after 7 innings.

In the top of the 8th, Pete Schuler smacked a 2-run homer to left field, which tied the game up at 4. It was Schuler's second homerun in three days, and breathed new life into the Kingfish.

It was all for not, however, as Growler hitter Dan Robinson slapped a single to center field which brought home Conor Kopach in the bottom of the 9th, giving Kalamazoo the walk-off winner.

Brendon Allen took the mound for the Kingfish and was masterful again. He pitched 6.2 innings, allowed 3 runs, 2 earned runs, a walk, and punched out 7. Ty Ramirez worked one inning and gave up an unearned-run. Rigo Beltran gave up the game-winner, and took the loss after an inning of action. Matt Hearn paced the offense with 3 hits and a walk. Nick Kanavas also had a multi-hit outing as he went 2 for 4.

The loss moves to Kenosha to a 4-3 record this season. The Kingfish will finish their series with Kalamazoo tomorrow before heading to Rockford on Wednesday.
