Chinooks Fall at Green Bay

Green Bay, WI - After a two fog delays ultimately discontinued play in Saturday's tilt, the Chinooks traveled to Green Bay on Sunday to face off against the Bullfrogs in game two of the series.
Tyler Hasper (Heartland Community College) started on the bump for Lakeshore, looking to secure his first win of the season after he was awarded the loss in the season opener against Kalamazoo on May 31. Stuart Springer (St. Edwards) took the mound for the Bullfrogs in his first start of the year for Green Bay.
Green Bay struck first in the fourth. Marcus Shoemaker (Lenoir Rhyne) started it off by knocking a one out single, proceeding to steal second to put himself in scoring position. Shoemaker would later score on an RBI single by Bullfrogs short stop Jesse Berdardi (St. Johns) to give Green Bay a 1-0 lead over Lakeshore.
Tyler Hasper would be pulled by manager Eddy Morgan after giving up one run on two hits and striking out eight Bullfrog batters in four innings of work. The right hander would ultimately be issued a no decision in his second start for Lakeshore.
The Bullfrogs' slight advantage was short lived, as the Chinooks answered back in the sixth with a run of their own. Royce Ando (Michigan State) kicked started the inning with a lead off single. Royce would swipe second base on a passed ball the following at bat, later advancing to third on a single by Zac Taylor (Houston). Joe Duncan (Eastern Illinois) then ensued to deal the decisive blow, selflessly lifting a sacrifice fly to center to score Ando from third and to even up the score at 1-1.
Green Bay countered in the bottom of the sixth. Marshall Kasowski (Houston) entered the game in relief of Tyler Hasper in the fifth, but had trouble with his control in the sixth, hitting Laren Eustace (Indiana) with the first pitch of the inning to put the lead off batter on base for the Bullfrogs. After Marcus Shoemaker hit a fly ball to left for the first out of the inning, Jesse Berardi stepped up once again to deliver in the clutch, driving a double into the gab to score Eustance from first and give Green Bay a 2-1 advantage.
But yet again, the Chinooks had a short memory in the seventh and came out swinging early. After an error by Zachary Biermann (Polk State) allowed lead off hitter Kurtis Brown (Richmond) to reach at first, Owen Miller (Illinois State) stepped up and smashed a double to score Brown all the way from first and tie the game at 2-2.
Both sides failed to tack on additional runs as the final out of the ninth was recorded, forcing the game into extra innings.
Bullfrogs reliever B.J. Sabol (Indiana) took over on the mound for the top of the tenth, striking out Royce Ando and inducing a ground ball and pop out to hold the score for Green Bay at 2-2.
After coming into the game to pitch the bottom of the ninth, Chinooks relief pitcher Austin Jones (UW-Whitewater) stayed on for Eddy Morgan to pitch the tenth. However, a lead off double by Bullfrogs second baseman Randell Kanemaru (Columbia) put runners in scoring position early. Kanemaru would then proceed to advance to third after an error by Austin Jones additionally allowed Brad Hamilton (Kent State) to reach at first. Kanemaru would later be thrown attempting to score on a fielder's choice off the bat of Chris Botsoe (Lousiville), and in the process also advanced Hamilton to second on the play. Laren Eustace reached base on a fielder's choice in which no out was recorded, advancing the runners one base and resulting in the Bullfrogs having bases loaded with one out as Marcus Shoemaker stepped to the plate.
After drawing the count full and fouling off two tough pitches, Shoemaker demonstrated excellent plate discipline, watching ball four from Jones cross out of the zone to bring Brad Hamilton around to score, giving the Bullfrogs the 3-2 win on a walk off walk.
Austin Jones would be issued the loss for his efforts, allowing one run on two hits. Though he struck out three in his one and one-third innings of work, he could not find his control against Shoemaker when it mattered most, seceding the game winning run on a base-on-balls and dropping the Chinooks record on the season to 3-3.
Bullfrog reliever Harrisen Egly (Columbia) was awarded the win for his scoreless inning of work in the tenth, picking up his first win of the season and improving Green Bay's record to 3-3 on the year.
The Chinooks travel to Rockford on Monday to square off against the Rivets in their first matchup of the season at 5:05pm.
